Upcoming Hake's Sale to Feature Signed MTG Artist Proofs Certified by CGC x JSA

Posted on 10/9/2025

The Artist Proof cards include three Limited Edition Beta rarities, each signed by Amy Weber or Anson Maddocks.

Have you ever wanted to own a piece of Magic: The Gathering history? Don’t miss an upcoming Hake’s sale that features several CGC-certified Artist Proof cards signed and sketched by some of MTG’s original artists! These are just a few of the hundreds of CGC-certified cards being offered in an upcoming Hake’s auction that is set to open on October 17, 2025, and end on October 27.

Artist Proof cards are special Proofs with a blank back. These cards are usually given to commissioned artists after completion of a card’s artwork. Most of the time, these cards are kept by the artists in their personal collections. Sometimes, though, an artist will remove the card from their collection and sell it on the secondary market. Many artists choose to create illustrations on the back of the cards (since the backs are blank), making many of these Artist Proofs unique.

Three notable Artist Proof cards are being offered in the sale, each certified by CGC x JSA. A Time Walk, Magic: The Gathering (1993) Limited Edition Beta Artist Proof certified by CGC as authentic and signed by Amy Weber with a grade of Auto 9 is leading the CGC-certified cards in the sale. Time Walk is already a rare and valuable card on its own, being one of the elusive Power Nine. However, this Artist Proof has exclusive artwork by Amy Weber — the original artist of Time Walk, and one of Magic: The Gathering’s original contributing artists — on the back of the card. Additionally, the front of the card includes a small sketch by Weber on the bottom right corner of the art box.

Meanwhile, two Artist Proof cards signed and sketched by Anson Maddocks are being offered in the sale. These include a Siren’s Call, Magic: The Gathering (1993) Limited Edition Beta Artist Proof graded CGC Gem Mint 10 and Auto 10, and a Cyclopean Tomb, Magic: The Gathering (1993) Limited Edition Beta Artist Proof graded CGC 8.5 and Auto 9. Like Amy Weber, Anson Maddocks was one of Magic: The Gathering’s original 25 contributing artists, having created illustrations for cards in the original three sets and Antiquities.
