Stanley Gibbons Baldwin's Offers Magic, One Piece and Pokémon in 'CGC: Graded Greats' Sale

Posted on 4/8/2026

The auction is exclusively CGC-certified cards, including heavy hitters like Alpha Black Lotus and Gold Star Pokémon.

More than a hundred CGC-certified Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering and One Piece cards are being offered in a Stanley Gibbons Baldwin’s auction consisting exclusively of CGC-certified cards. Online bidding is already underway for the CGC: Graded Greats auction, which is set to end on April 10, 2026.

Dozens of early Magic: The Gathering cards are being offered in the sale, including a Black Lotus, Magic: The Gathering (1993) Limited Edition Alpha graded CGC 6.5 (lot 17), which has an estimate of £55,000 to £60,000 (about $73,000 to $79,000). Black Lotus is probably the most recognizable and sought-after card in MTG because of its scarcity and status as king of the Power Nine, a group of Magic: The Gathering cards that Wizards of the Coast has vowed to never reprint. There were only an estimated 1,100 copies of Black Lotus printed in the Alpha Edition set of MTG, making the card one of the rarest in the entire game’s history. Black Lotus is the ultimate chase for any collector, and its place in MTG history cannot be understated.

Several Pokémon cards are also being offered in the auction, including a Kyogre Gold Star, Pokémon (2005) EX Delta Species graded CGC Gem Mint 10 (lot 20), which has an estimate of £4,000 to £5,000 (about $5,300 to $6,600). Gold Star cards show off Pokémon in their alternate “shiny” colors — a rare phenomenon that is as elusive in the TCG as it is in the games. Pokémon can only be encountered in their shiny variants at an odds of 1:8,192 (1:4,096 in modern games), or about 0.01% of each encounter with a Pokémon in game. In the TCG, shiny Pokémon artwork is reserved for special sets. Gold Star Pokémon cards, such as this Kyogre, were sporadically released during the EX era as secret rare cards and only have a chance of being pulled in one of every 72 packs.

Finally, One Piece collectors are also in luck. A Monkey D. Luffy, One Piece (2024) Premium Booster: The Best – OP01-024 Super Rare Alternate Art Parallel graded CGC Pristine 10 (lot 1) is among dozens of One Piece cards available in the Baldwin’s sale. Luffy is not only one of the most popular characters in One Piece (he is the main protagonist, after all), he is also one of the hottest characters in all of Japanese anime. Because of this, any alternate art card featuring Luffy usually demands a premium on the secondary market. It has an estimate of £100 to £120 (about $130 to $160).
