CGC Now Encapsulating Select Cards in ‘Tall Boy’ Holders in Shanghai
Posted on 6/5/2026
CGC® is pleased to introduce its “Tall Boy” card holder for submissions made in Shanghai. The CGC Tall Boy holder is tailored to the sizes of certain oversized cards that are too large to be encapsulated in CGC’s standard card holder. Upon initial release in December 2025, the CGC Tall Boy holder was only available for submissions sent to CGC's headquarters in the United States. Now, card collectors in China also have access to the holder, which will be utilized for select card submissions in Shanghai at no extra cost!
Today, most modern Chinese trading cards use the standard measurement of 2.5 x 3.5 inches. However, some cards are not created with regular sizes and do not fit CGC standard holders. CGC is now utilizing its Tall Boy holder in Shanghai (not to be confused with the pre-existing CGC Jumbo holder) for select cards with varied dimensions.
Better fit, better clarity
For many card sizes that are encountered less frequently, CGC uses soft-plastic protective sleeves that are encapsulated within the holder to secure the card in place. With the new Tall Boy holder, many of these cards will not require a soft-plastic sleeve, which means additional clarity in the holder.
"As CGC continues to expand its services in China, we are now able to offer even more encapsulation options for card submissions in Shanghai," said Andy Broome, CGC Vice President, Sports Cards. "When it comes to Chinese sports cards and more, the new Tall Boy holders will provide a more precise fit and extra clarity."
Submitters do not need to do anything differently when submitting cards to CGC in Shanghai. The CGC team automatically selects the appropriate holder when encapsulating cards, and the CGC Tall Boy holder will be used at no extra cost to submitters!
CGC has graded more than 15 million cards, including more than 3 million sports cards — a number that encompasses thousands of non-standard-sized collectibles. If you have questions about CGC card grading in Shanghai, contact Customer Service at (+86) 400 635 8226 or [email protected].
