One-of-a-kind Charles Barkley Card Certified by CSG Sells for $15,000 at Auction

A Charles Barkley card graded by Certified Sports Guaranty® (CSG®) sold for $15,000 on eBay in late May 2022. The sales price for the 1999-00 Skybox Apex Xtreme #74xx Charles Barkley, which is graded CSG 9, may be the highest for any card of the NBA Hall of Famer.

This 1/1 card features Charles Barkley backing down a defender surrounded by a color-shifting background. The back of the card features Barkley in a white Houston Rockets jersey along with some basic stats for both the 1998-99 season and his career up to that point. The bottom of the card reads “The Only 1 of 1 Xtreme.”

The 1999-00 Skybox Apex set is light on popular rookie cards, but several big-name veteran players make this set worth looking into for collectors. It features a base version of the card as well as a parallel Xtra serial numbered to 50. Very few of the “1 of 1 Xtreme” cards have been graded.

The NBA of the ’90s was dominated by big names and even bigger personalities. Whether you know him as “Chuck,” “Sir Charles” or simply Charles Barkley, he was a mainstay of the league. His work on Inside the NBA has introduced him to a new generation of fans.

Charles Barkley was born in Leeds, Alabama. He attended Auburn University before he began his professional career. Barkley was the fifth overall pick in the talent-packed 1984 NBA Draft. He played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Phoenix Suns and the Rockets, retiring after the 1999-2000 season. Barkley was elected to the NBA Hall of Fame in 2006 and was recently selected as a member of the NBA 75th Anniversary Team. He was also an 11-time All Star and the NBA’s MVP for the 1992-93 season.
