Fausto Barrionuevo Joins CGC Trading Cards as Marvel Card Expert and Senior Consultant

The Certified Collectibles Group® (CCG®) is pleased to announce that Fausto Barrionuevo has joined CGC Trading Cards™ as Marvel Card Expert and Senior Consultant. A lifelong Marvel enthusiast, Barrionuevo (also known as sketchcardhive) has been heavily involved in the Marvel trading card community for the past decade, developing relationships with Upper Deck, Marvel card artists and others who have been instrumental in the creation of Marvel sets. He is an administrator of one of the largest Marvel trading card groups on Facebook and co-hosts the Marvel Card Collector’s podcast.

CGC Trading Cards is the division of Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) devoted to grading Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh! and other popular trading card games. Since launching in July 2020, CGC Trading Cards has already graded more than 1.5 million cards, including a Pokémon Test Print Blastoise card that realized $360,000 — a record for an English Pokémon card.

Fausto Barrionuevo’s interest in Marvel began in the 1990s with its trading cards. “There was something special about holding a Marvel card in your hands in the '90s; it almost was like being in a museum. Every card had a story drawn or painted by some of the most influential comic and fantasy artists. I still have my original 1992 Marvel Universe Silver Surfer by Ron Lim that I kept with me at all times. Needless to say, the card is far from being a CGC Gem Mint,” Barrionuevo noted.

CGC Trading Cards has been continuously adding new cards to its roster of cards that are eligible for grading. One of the most highly anticipated is Marvel cards. Many collectors are looking forward to seeing their favorite Marvel cards graded, labeled and holdered alongside their CGC-certified comic book counterparts, and they will be able to soon.
