One-of-a-Kind Amazing Fantasy #15 Comic Panel Card Certified by CGC Trading Cards

Posted on 9/22/2022

This is one of only 15 cards that includes an original panel direct from the pages of a copy of Spider-Man’s debut issue.

CGC Trading Cards® has certified a superhero-rare Amazing Fantasy #15 Marvel card that features an original panel direct from the pages of Amazing Fantasy #15. The 1962 Marvel Comics grail is cherished in the comic book world as the issue that introduced Spider-Man. Only 15 comic panel cards were produced for the 2022 Spider-Man Metal Universe set by Upper Deck.

Collector Luis Alonso pulled the card and entrusted it to CGC Trading Cards for certification. It was entered into our systems using an anonymous identification number that ensures cards are graded fairly and without bias. CGC Trading Cards authenticated it and graded it CGC 9.

“When I pulled it, I was stunned for a second, and then my mind caught up with me. I was like, ‘This is real. You just hit a grail’,” Alonso said. “There’s no better place to get this graded than CGC. You guys are the leaders in comic book grading. There’s no other choice.”

Comic cuts have a long history in Marvel cards dating back to the 2006 Marvel: The Complete Avengers set, which featured oversized cards that had cuts from the original comic books. Now, they are standard card-sized and house some of the most influential comic book moments in Marvel history. You can find these cuts in many Marvel cards sets, from 2011’s Marvel Beginnings all the way to more recent sets like 2020’s Marvel Ages and 2021’s X-Men Metal Universe.

As the first appearance of Spider-Man, Amazing Fantasy #15 is easily one of the grail comics of any collector. Even lower-grade copies of Amazing Fantasy #15 can go for five or six figures, and in 2021, a CGC 9.6 copy was sold for a then-record-setting amount of $3.6 million. Owning even a small piece of it is any collector’s dream, and with only 15 panel cards produced in this set, they are just as hard to find as the comic itself.
