Pokémon Card Certified by CGC Trading Cards Leads Goldin Auction
Posted on 10/20/2022
A Pokémon card certified by CGC Trading Cards® saw incredible results in a recent Goldin sale. The Charizard, Pokémon (1999) Base Set Shadowless 1st Edition #4/102 Holo graded CGC 9.5 realized $36,600 in a sale that ended on October 6, 2022.
Notably, this CGC-certified Charizard realized a higher price than another Base Set Shadowless 1st Edition Charizard graded by a different major third-party grading service. Both Charizard cards were graded 9.5 by their respective services. These results are just the latest example to showcase the growing preference among collectors and dealers for cards certified by CGC Trading Cards.
Additionally, $36,000 is the highest price realized for a single CGC-certified Base Set Shadowless 1st Edition Charizard, doubling the previous highest result. A Charizard graded CGC 9 sold on PWCC for $16,800 in July 2022, while another graded CGC 9 sold for $19,200 in 2021. Two more CGC 9 Charizard cards sold for a combined $38,000 in an online Whatnot auction in July 2022.
There are currently only six Charizard Base Set Holo cards graded CGC 9.5 in the CGC Trading Cards Population Report, with none graded higher. The Base Set Charizard is one of the most expensive, rare and coveted cards in the world and always demands fierce competition from bidders.
