The Collect This! Salute to the 1952 Mickey Mantle Topps Card
Posted on 10/18/2022
CSG recently bestowed a grade of 8 upon a 1952 Mickey Mantle Topps card, making it the most valuable card to pass through the company's grading room. In just two years, CSG has become a major player in the card grading world, and Collect This! celebrated this monumental achievement with an episode devoted solely to arguably the most iconic card in sports collecting.
“We landed a Murderer’s Row of guests for the Mantle tribute,” said Collect This! host Alan Goldsher. “David Seideman, who used to write about the hobby for Forbes, is one of the industry’s foremost Mantle-ologists. Simeon Lipman of Antiques Roadshow fame was the perfect guy to offer context for New York Yankees legend’s place in contemporary pop culture. And my esteemed CSG colleague Andy Broome graded the card, so if anybody can speak about its intrinsic awesomeness, it’s him.”
“And yes, I realize ‘Murderer’s Row’ refers to another Yankees era,” Goldsher continued, “but considering how much knowledge David, Simeon and Andy bring to the table, well, it was just so darn apt.”
Moving forward, Goldsher sees high-grade, high-value cards in the CSG grading room becoming a commonality. “Sports card collecting continues to be a massively growing asset class, and with CSG becoming more of a player in the space, I can envision iconic cards like this one becoming a very regular thing."
New episodes of CSG’s sports card and collectibles podcast Collect This! premiere every Thursday, and can be heard on Apple, Spotify and all major podcast platforms. For more information, write [email protected].
