Team CGC Trading Cards Placed Top 4 in Pokémon Salt Lake City Regional Championships!

Team CGC Trading Cards is on fire in this 2023 competitive season! Going up against 834 Master level competitors, the team advanced to day two yet again, this time at the Salt Lake City Regional Championships, held at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, on October 14-16.

Representing Team CGC Trading Cards, Azul Garcia Griego placed 4^th (11-2-4), Caleb Gedemer placed 6^th (11-3-2) and Kidd Starck placed 151^st (5-3-1) overall. Daniel Altavilla was unable to attend but will be returning at the next event. The team continued to utilize their Astral Radiance Regigigas deck strategy, which would foreshadow their future success.

Throughout the event, the Regigigas deck strategy proved to be a powerhouse, as Azul and Caleb both held Top 8 positions. The Regigigas deck maintains strength because of the Ancient Wisdom ability on Regigigas to increase Energy cards. This ability is based on whether the player has other Regi- cards (Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Regidrago and Regieleki) in play. Competition remained fierce, as Caleb lost his Top 8 match-up to a solid counter deck featuring Arceus and Pikachu. Azul surpassed his mirror match-up in Top 8 to make it to the Top 4, but ultimately lost to a Goodra based deck, which became the tournament winner deck.

Team CGC Trading Cards was assembled by Danny Oesterreich in 2022, and is comprised of seasoned players Daniel Altavilla, Azul Garcia Griego, Caleb Gedemer and Kidd Starck. The team will compete next at the Latin America International Championships, at the Expo Center Norte, in São Paulo, Brazil, on November 25-27.
