Team CGC Trading Cards Placed Top 16 in the Pokémon Latin America International Championships!

Team CGC Trading Cards continues its streak of day two advancements in the 2023 competitive season! Going against 976 Master level competitors, the team advanced to day two at the Pokémon Latin America International Championships, at the Expo Center Norte in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on November 25-27.

Representing Team CGC Trading Cards, Azul Garcia Griego placed 15th (10/2/3), Caleb Gedemer placed 55th (8/3/4), Kidd Starck placed 137th (5/2/2) and Daniel Altavilla (0/3) did not place. This time the team changed their strategy from the Regigigas combo used in the previous two championships, now that the Silver Tempest Pokémon set has become tournament legal.

During the event, the team used a variation of the popular Lost Box deck, that has been performing well since the release of the Pokémon Lost Origin set. The release of Silver Tempest proved to be a difficult obstacle, with the Lugia VSTAR card being a frequent choice for competitors. Rather than playing the Lugia VSTAR card themselves, the team opted to strategize how to beat it. To enhance their Lost Box deck strategy, the team incorporated cards like Raikou V, Snorlax and Kyogre. Azul and Caleb both saw success with this deck strategy, successfully making it to day two of the championship.

Team CGC Trading Cards was assembled by Danny Oesterreich in 2022, and is comprised of seasoned players Daniel Altavilla, Azul Garcia Griego, Caleb Gedemer and Kidd Starck. The team will compete next at the Toronto Regional Championships, at the Enercare Centre, in Toronto, Canada, on December 2-4.
