Heritage Auctions Offers Rare Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards Certified by CGC Trading Cards

An example of a seldom-seen Yu-Gi-Oh! promo card certified by CGC Trading Cards® is making a rare appearance at auction. Bidding for the Seal of Orichalcos UDE promo had already exceeded $2,000 a week before Heritage Auctions’ Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Games Showcase auction, which will be held February 2, 2023.

The Seal of Orichalcos, Yu-Gi-Oh! (2005) Upper Deck – Duel the Master Side Event – SEAL EN001 Unauthorized Print is graded CGC 5.5 and has subgrades of 8.5 for Centering, 4.5 for Surface, 5.5 for Corners and 7.5 for Edges (lot 78059). This is the second CGC-certified example to come to auction; a Seal of Orichalcos UDE Promo graded CGC 7 realized $26,400 in a Heritage Auctions sale in June 2022.

Back in 2006, Upper Deck Entertainment hosted a series of side events at popular conventions around the world. One of these events was the Orichalcos Challenge — a special Yu-Gi-Oh! tournament where players had the chance to duel members of Upper Deck’s R&D team. UDE’s officials used decks that contained overpowered cards, such as The Seal of Orichalcos, to weigh the games heavily in their favor. Players who were able to overcome these massive odds received event-exclusive cards, prizes and bragging rights.

Because UDE’s The Seal of Orichalcos was only meant for the R&D team’s use during these events, the card is extremely rare and was never meant for public release.
