Heritage Offers Over 100 Magic: The Gathering Cards Certified by CGC Trading Cards

Posted on 2/21/2023

Among them is a Volcanic Island from the Limited Edition Beta set — the second-ever release of Magic: The Gathering.

Over a hundred early Magic: The Gathering cards certified by CGC Trading Cards® are being offered in a Heritage Auctions sale. Online bidding is already underway for Volume 3 of the Tapping into the Many Worlds of Magic: The Gathering Trading Card Games Showcase Auction, which is set to end on March 2, 2023.

Leading the CGC-certified cards in the sale is a Volcanic Island, Magic: The Gathering (1993) Limited Edition Beta graded CGC 7 (lot 77037). Volcanic Island was one of the series’ first dual land cards, allowing players to tap it for either a Mountain or Island mana. The ability to choose their mana type freely with one card gives players a massive advantage during the early phases of the game, so the card is very popular.

In addition, two Black Lotus cards graded by CGC Trading Cards are attracting spirited bidding. A Black Lotus, Magic: The Gathering (1993) Collectors’ Edition graded CGC 8 with sub-grades of 8.5 for Centering, 9 for Surface, 8 for Corners and 8 for Edges (lot 77086) is from the coveted Collector’s Edition set — a set consisting of reprinted versions of each of the Limited Edition Beta cards. A Black Lotus, Magic: The Gathering (1993) Unlimited Edition graded CGC 5 with sub-grades of 9 for Centering, and 5 for Surface, Corners and Edges (lot 77046) is also available.
