Pokémon Cards Certified by CGC Trading Cards Break Records in January and February PWCC Auctions
Posted on 2/23/2023
Three Pokémon cards certified by CGC Trading Cards® broke records in February PWCC auctions. The record-breaking Charizard and Venusaur cards were just a few of many CGC-certified trading cards graded through the partnership between CGC Trading Cards and PWCC Marketplace that sold in January and February 2023.
A Charizard, Pokémon (2021) Japanese Creatures Deck: Corp. History 25th Anniversary – 1996 Promo graded CGC Pristine 10 with sub-grades of 9.5 for Centering and 10 for Surface, Corners and Edges realized a whopping $33,600 in PWCC’s January Premier Auction, a record price for any Pokémon card graded by CGC Trading Cards and sold through PWCC. The 2021 Charizard Promo reuses Mitsuhiro Arita’s iconic artwork from the 1996 Base Set Charizard card that took the world by storm when the Pokémon TCG was released. The 30-card Creature’s Deck set was distributed to various artists of the Pokémon TCG and Creatures Inc. employees to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary.
Another CGC-certified Charizard shattered the previous record for the highest price realized by a CGC-certified Pokémon card in a PWCC Weekly Auction. On February 6, 2023, a Charizard, Pokémon (1999) Base Set 1st Edition Holo graded CGC 9 realized $19,800. Another Charizard Base Set 1st Edition Holo graded CGC 9 sold for $16,200 in the same weekly auction.
Finally, a Venusaur, Pokémon (1999) Base Set 1st Edition Holo set a new record for the highest price a CGC-certified Venusaur card has realized in a PWCC Weekly Auction. This Venusaur is one of only two Base Set 1st Edition Holo Venusaur cards graded CGC Pristine 10 in the CGC Trading Cards Population Report. It realized $14,400 on January 29.

PWCC Marketplace and CGC Trading Cards® have formed an operational partnership to create a streamlined pathway to grading and selling cards online. This program is accessed through an online submission process on the PWCC website. Everything is managed through the PWCC Vault — there’s no need to manually fill out or print submission forms.
Cards sent to CGC Trading Cards through PWCC will receive priority grading and encapsulation. Graded cards are returned to PWCC and immediately added to the auctioneer’s Auction Builder Curation Algorithm process, which optimizes cards for sale in upcoming PWCC Weekly Auctions.
