What makes it special? As a one-and-done collegiate star at Duke University, Paolo Banchero was one of the biggest names in NCAA basketball last season. As a freshman, the 6'10" forward helped lead the Blue Devils to the Final Four during legendary Coach Mike Krzyzewski's farewell season in Durham. As March Madness approaches once again, Banchero is now a pro player after being selected No. 1 overall by the Orlando Magic in the 2022 NBA Draft.

On October 19, 2022, Banchero impressed with 27 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 blocks during his NBA regular season debut, setting the tone for the 2022-23 NBA season as he quickly became a key player for the Magic. In fact, Banchero leads his team in four out of the five major statistical categories on the season: points (19.7 per game), rebounds (6.6 per game), assists (3.6 per game) and steals (0.9 per game).

Although Orlando looks like they might miss out on the playoffs this year, Banchero's solid rookie season has made him a favorite for the Rookie of the Year award. Still only 20 years old, Banchero could be a difference maker in the league for years to come.

Did you know? On November 5, 2022, Banchero scored 33 points and brought in 16 rebounds, making him only the second player in NBA history to score 30 points and grab 15 rebounds in a game as a teenager. NBA superstar LeBron James is the only other player to accomplish the feat at such a young age.
