Sotheby's Offering CSG-certified Dynasty Collection Featuring Michael Jordan's Championship Sneakers
Posted on 3/31/2023
Last year, Certified Sports Guaranty® (CSG®) had the honor of certifying the authenticity and provenance of The Dynasty Collection — a group of NBA legend Michael Jordan's six sneakers worn during each of the Chicago Bulls' championship-clinching games in the 1990s. This holy grail of Air Jordan collections is now being offered for sale by Sotheby's, and the auction house continues to promote the historic offering. Recently, the sneakers were on view in Dubai and Hong Kong.
As one of the most recognizable figures in the world of sports, Jordan is arguably the greatest player in NBA history, while many consider him the most important athlete of all time. He had unprecedented success during his pro career, including winning six NBA championships in the 1990s. Off the court, his legacy lives on through his Nike partnership and famous Air Jordan line of signature sneakers. The six sneakers in The Dynasty Collection represent the most valuable and important collection of Air Jordan sneakers ever brought to market, which is a reflection of both Jordan's status as an NBA great and his influence on sneaker culture as a whole.
The Dynasty Collection consists of the Air Jordan VI (1991), Air Jordan VII (1992), Air Jordan VIII (1993), Air Jordan XI (1996), Air Jordan XII (1997) and Air Jordan XIV (1998). Four of the sneakers have been autographed by Jordan himself, with two of those being inscribed by the player as well.
The Chicago Bulls selected Jordan out of the University of North Carolina with the No. 3 overall pick in the 1984 NBA Draft. He quickly became one of the most dominant forces in the league as he took the NBA by storm. Jordan would go on to earn six NBA championships, six Finals MVPs, five league MVPs, 14 All-Star selections and three All-Star Game MVPs. He won 10 scoring titles and is a two-time Slam Dunk Contest champion. Among numerous post-retirement honors, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009 and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016.
