CGC Cards Certifies Two Hand-signed Rookie Cards of Chiefs Star QB Patrick Mahomes

CGC Cards™ recently had the opportunity to authenticate and grade a pair of rare rookie cards of two-time Super Bowl winner Patrick Mahomes II, with each including a game-worn jersey patch and the star quarterback's hand-written signature. At only 28 years old, Mahomes is already one of the most decorated and accomplished players in the league, becoming a face of the NFL and a household name in recent years. Therefore, it's no surprise that these National Treasures cards featuring the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback are worth thousands of dollars and highly coveted by collectors.

One of the examples is a 2017 Panini National Treasures Rookie Colossal Signatures #RCS-PM Patrick Mahomes II #'d/99 graded CGC Mint+ 9.5, with an autograph graded CGC 10. With only 99 made of this autographed football card featuring a piece of his game-worn jersey, it's the only one of its kind in the CGC Cards Population Report.

Each season, sports card collectors look forward to the newest Panini National Treasures release. The high-end series offers some of the rarest finds across the hobby, with numerous short-run prints of today's sporting superstars as well as sporting legends from the past. Some of the most sought-after cards each year combine both game-worn materials and player signatures. While most collectors would be thrilled to own even one of these cards, one lucky CGC Cards submitter sent in two Mahomes rookie card examples from the popular set.

The second example is a 2017 Panini National Treasures Rookie Material Signatures #RMS-PM Patrick Mahomes II #'d/99 graded CGC 7.5, with an autograph graded CGC 10. Similar to the first card, this rare Mahomes rookie card features the QB's game-worn jersey patch and his autograph. However, this particular card has a horizontal design, which clearly differentiates the otherwise very similar cards. This is the only graded example of this rarity in the CGC Cards Population Report.

Mahomes is one of the most popular NFL players to collect for sports card enthusiasts due to his success on the field and popularity off of it. Kansas City selected the Texas Tech star in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, and ever since, Mahomes has revolutionized the quarterback position. From making cross-body throws look easy to his sidearm passes and no-look completions under pressure, the QB plays the game like no other player under center that preceded him. Mahomes has become a pioneer of his craft and has redefined what is possible from the modern quarterback position.

It didn't take long for Mahomes' talent to shine, as he was given the opportunity to start the last regular season game of his rookie campaign, throwing for 284 yards and leading the Chiefs to a 27-24 victory. He would take over the starting QB position in his second year and quickly made Kansas City a perennial Super Bowl contender. Mahomes won his first MVP award that year and led the Chiefs to the AFC Championship. The QB went on to win his first Super Bowl in his third season and earned another Lombardi Trophy at the end of last season.

Since Mahomes has been a starter, Kansas City has made at least the AFC Championship Game in all five seasons he's been under center, including three trips to the Super Bowl. He's also picked up two NFL MVPs, two Super Bowl MVPs and five Pro Bowl selections. It's been an unprecedented start to Mahomes' pro career, and at 28 years old, he still has plenty of time to break more records and continue to rewrite NFL history books.
