CGC Cards Certifies Extremely Rare Card of Soccer Legends Messi and Ronaldo

Posted on 2/16/2024

The longtime Barcelona and Real Madrid rivals come together on a single card that includes both of the icons' hand-signed autographs.

CGC Cards™ recently graded an autographed card that features two of soccer's greatest players, who were part of one of the longest, most intense rivalries in the history of the game. For a decade, Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo vied for La Liga titles and Champions League glory, each leading their clubs to several championships.

It's not often that collectors come across a signed card of either soccer icon, but it's an absolute rarity to find one with both Messi and Ronaldo's signatures on the same card. That's what's special about this 2022-23 Stadium Club Chrome UEFA Co-Signers Autographs #CSA-MR Lionel Messi/Cristiano Ronaldo - Red Refractor graded CGC 9, with autographs graded CGC 10. It is especially sought after because it had a print run of only five.

In 2018, Ronaldo left Real Madrid for Juventus in Italy's Serie A division, bringing an end to an iconic rivalry in Spain. Messi stuck around a few more years at Barcelona before leaving his childhood club and heading to France, signing for Paris Saint-Germain in 2021. It would be the first time since 2004 that the famed Spanish league didn't include at least one of the legendary players, bringing an end to a golden age of soccer in Spain.

This throwback card from the 2022-23 Stadium Club Chrome UEFA set honors Messi and Ronaldo's longtime rivalry, with each player's image taken from their days at their respective Spanish clubs while celebrating a goal. Messi is seen wearing Barcelona's famous blue and red striped kit and blowing a kiss to the crowd after scoring. Similarly, Ronaldo is seen wearing Real Madrid's home white kit and silencing any doubters after netting another goal.

The horizontal card places each player's goal celebration on the far right, leaving plenty of space in the middle of the card for two full signatures in blue ink, separated by the Stadium Club Chrome logo and the word "Co-Signers." The back contains a serial number of 2/5. One collectible featuring the autographs of arguably the greatest two players of their generation makes this one of the most desirable soccer cards ever created.

Messi

Lionel Messi's talent was evident at an early age, joining Argentinian club Newell's Old Boys at just six years old. At 13 years old, he made the move to Spain, signing for Barcelona's youth team. Messi rapidly moved up the youth ranks and made his senior debut for Barcelona in a friendly match in 2003. By 2005, he became a regular starter as a right winger and, as they say, the rest was history.

The young Argentinian went on to win every club title and individual award imaginable during his almost two decades with the first team of Barcelona. Messi won the La Liga title 10 times, the Copa del Rey seven times and the UEFA Champions League four times. He added two Ligue 1 titles while at PSG, and won the Copa América in 2021 and the FIFA World Cup in 2022 with Argentina, earning every major trophy possible at the club and international levels. Among countless individual accolades, Messi has won the Ballon d'Or Award eight times, which is the most by any player ever. He now plays in Major League Soccer for Inter Miami.

Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo also began his career during his elementary school years, playing for the youth teams of smaller clubs in Portugal before eventually signing for Sporting CP at 12 years old. He caught the eye of legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson while he was still a teenager, as the famed English club signed him at just 18 years old. Ronaldo became a star in Manchester, winning three Premier League titles, an FA Cup title and a UEFA Champions League title.

After a successful six seasons in England, the young forward joined Real Madrid for a then-world record transfer fee of £80 million. He'd go on to win every club title in Spain as well, on his way to becoming the iconic club's all-time top goal scorer. He won the La Liga title twice, Copa del Rey twice and UEFA Champions League title four times. After leaving Real Madrid and joining Juventus, Ronaldo won the Serie A title twice, the Coppa Italia once and the Supercoppa Italiana twice. The soccer superstar also won the UEFA European Championship in 2016 with Portugal at the international level. He won numerous individual awards as well, winning the Ballon d'Or Award five times in his storied career. Ronaldo now plays in Saudi Arabia for Al Nassr.
