CGC-certified TCGs Continue to Impress in PWCC Auctions
Posted on 3/7/2024
More Pokémon cards certified by CGC Cards™ took the lead in February PWCC auctions, including a Creatures Deck: Corporate History Marnie that sold for five figures. The Marnie was just one of the thousands of CGC-certified TCGs, sports cards and non-sports cards that were graded through the partnership between CGC Cards and PWCC Marketplace and then sold in February and March 2024.
The Marnie, Pokémon (2021) Japanese Creatures Deck: Corp. History 25th Anniversary – 2020 graded CGC Gem Mint 10 realized $15,000 on March 3. Marnie is an extremely popular character — both for her trainer card ability and her character design — so her secret rare card is very valuable to collectors. The Creatures Deck: Corporate History reprint is even more valuable, since a limited number of cards were printed for the Corporate History deck, and they were only given to Creatures Inc. employees. CGC Cards has certified six examples graded CGC Gem Mint 10 according to the CGC Cards Population Report, with only one graded higher.
In addition, a Shining Mew, Pokémon (2001) Japanese CoroCoro Comic Promo Holo graded CGC Pristine 10 sold for $5,160 on February 25. Subscribers of CoroCoro Comic received this card as an additional promo with their May 2001 issue of the magazine. Unlike other Shining Pokémon in the Darkness and Light expansion of the Pokémon TCG, Shining Mew features a Cosmos holofoil pattern instead of an embossed holofoil treatment.
Meanwhile, hundreds of CGC-certified sports cards sold through PWCC in February as well, with the top highlight of the sales being an autographed card of Buffalo Bills star quarterback Josh Allen. A 2018 Panini Origins Rookie Jumbo Patch Autographs #104 Josh Allen - Red graded CGC 8.5, with an autograph graded CGC 10 sold for $1,020 on February 18. The two-time Pro Bowler is among the NFL's elite QBs, throwing more than 4,000 passing yards each of the last four seasons in a row. Although a Super Bowl title has thus far eluded the Allen-led Bills, they are perennial playoff contenders. If the popular QB ever lifts a Lombardi Trophy, autographed rookie cards like this one are likely to increase further in value.
Another sports card highlight from February's PWCC sales was a soccer card of midfielder Xavi from the earliest years of his iconic career in Barcelona. A 1998-99 Panini Spanish Liga #19a Xavier Hernandez graded CGC 7 sold for $504 on February 11. Xavi was a staple of the midfield at Barcelona and on the Spanish national team for years, famously helping lead Spain to three international titles in five years (FIFA World Cup - 2010, UEFA European Championship - 2008, 2012). He also helped Barcelona win eight La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions League titles. Retiring in 2019, Xavi ended his playing career as one of the most decorated midfielders in the history of the game, ensuring that soccer collectors would covet his collectibles like this early Panini issue.

Notable Upcoming PWCC Sales

Sell Your CGC-certified Cards on PWCC Marketplace!
PWCC Marketplace and CGC Cards have created a streamlined pathway to grading and selling through an operational partnership between the two companies. The grading and selling program is accessed via an online submission process on the PWCC website, and everything is managed through the PWCC Vault.
Cards sent to CGC receive priority grading and encapsulation through its third-party grading service for sports cards. Graded cards are returned to PWCC and immediately added to PWCC’s Auction Builder Curation Algorithm process, which optimizes cards for sale in upcoming PWCC Weekly Sunday Auctions.

Prices realized include buyer’s premium.
Note: At the time some of these cards were graded, they were encapsulated with the original CGC Cards label. Starting July 11, 2023, CGC Cards began encapsulating cards with the new CGC Cards label. In addition to the new label, collectors enjoy many other benefits with CGC Cards, such as the ability to submit without purchasing a membership and an industry-standard Gem Mint 10 grading scale.
