Base Set 1st Edition Charizard Graded CGC Gem Mint 10 Leads Collectibles in Upcoming Heritage Auctions Sale

A Charizard certified by CGC Cards™ is leading the collectibles being offered in an ongoing Heritage Auctions sale. It is among the CGC-certified collectibles being offered in Heritage’s The Pokémon Central Collection Trading Card Games Showcase Auction, which is set to end on May 23, 2024.

Bidding for the Charizard, Pokémon (1999) Base Set 1st Edition Holo graded CGC Gem Mint 10 (lot 78006) had already surpassed $15,000 more than two weeks before the auction is set to end. Charizard is easily one of the most popular Pokémon in the franchise, and its first card in the official TCG is highly sought after. The Base Set 1st Edition Charizard is considered the holy grail of any Pokémon TCG collection, and finding one in such excellent condition isn’t easy.

CGC Cards has graded a total of 467 examples of Base Set 1st Edition Charizard as of early May 2024, according to the CGC Cards Population Report. Of these examples, 24 are graded CGC Gem Mint 10, with only two graded higher.

Two Pokémon VHS movies certified by CGC Home Video™ are also being offered in the sale: A sealed Pokémon: The First Movie VHS, Warner Home Video (2000) graded CGC 9.2 A++ (lot 78093) and a sealed Pokémon: The First Movie VHS, Warner Home Video (2000) graded CGC 9.0 A+ (lot 78094). Both sealed VHS copies of the first movie come packaged with all of the original inserts and memorabilia, including the original Mewtwo Black Star Promo card packaged with all copies of Pokémon: The First Movie on VHS and DVD.
