Fall in Love with Gold Star Pokémon Cards Certified by CGC in February Baldwin's Sale

Posted on 2/7/2025

The anniversary auction includes dozens of CGC-certified Pokémon cards from the early years of the game.

More than 100 high-value Pokémon cards — many of which are certified by CGC® — are being offered by Stanley Gibbons Baldwin’s in a special auction celebrating Pokémon’s 29th anniversary. Online bidding for the CGC 100 Auction is already underway and is set to end on February 28, 2025.

Dozens of rare cards from the first decade of the game are being highlighted in the sale, including this Latias Gold Star, Pokémon (2005) EX Deoxys Holo graded CGC Gem Mint 10 (lot 54). Gold Star cards feature Pokémon in their shiny colors. Like their video game counterparts, these shiny Gold Star cards are very difficult to pull — rates average 1 in every 72 packs, or 1 in 2 booster boxes. Due to its rarity, Latias Gold Star realizes high prices at auction, with this example expected to sell for at least £8,000 (about $9,900).

Also featured in the auction is a Rayquaza Gold Star, Pokémon (2005) EX Deoxys Holo graded CGC 9 (lot 55). Like Latias, Rayquaza is a legendary Pokémon from the Hoenn region, who first debuted in the Pokémon Ruby Version and Pokémon Sapphire Version video games. In this card, Rayquaza is also featured in its shiny colors. Shiny Rayquaza has long been a fan-favorite Pokémon, and its card realizes high premiums at auction. This example has an estimate of at least £4,500 (about $5,600).
