Alpha Black Lotus Signed by Richard Garfield Featured in Heritage Sale

A CGC x JSA-certified Alpha Black Lotus signed by Richard Garfield is making waves in an ongoing Heritage Auctions sale. It is just one of the dozens of CGC-certified cards being offered in Heritage’s September Trading Card Games Signature Auction, which is set to end on September 19-20, 2025.
The Black Lotus, Magic: The Gathering (1993) Limited Edition Alpha is graded CGC 7.5, and Garfield’s signature is certified as authentic with a grade of Auto 10 (lot 36001). Black Lotus from the Limited Edition Alpha set is already the most sought-after card in the entirety of Magic: The Gathering, but one signed by the creator of MTG himself makes the card even more invaluable. Bidders had already driven the price of the card to more than $40,000 just under two weeks before the end of the sale.

In addition, an Alakazam, Pokémon (1999) “Disco” Holo Test Print Shadowless Base Set – Partial Print graded CGC AU (lot 36061) is also commanding attention. Wizards of the Coast experimented with different holofoil patterns for Pokémon cards before releasing Base Set to the public. One of the holo patterns they tried out was the “Disco” holo print, which involves a sort of “disco” pattern in the holofoil. According to the CGC Cards Population Report, CGC has graded 248 “Disco” holo test print Pokémon cards. However, this example has another quirk — it is also a partial print! The bottom of the card’s art layer was not printed in its entirety, leaving only the holofoil layer present.
