Ohtani Bat Auto Breaks Record for CGC-certified Sports Card in October Fanatics Collect Auctions

Posted on 11/11/2025

A CGC-certified Base Set Charizard and Ishihara GX also made waves in the October auctions.

A CGC-certified one-of-one card that features a large piece of the barrel from a bat used by Shohei Ohtani and also includes the Japanese MLB star's autograph signed in Kanji recently realized more than $300,000, breaking the record for any CGC-certified sports card sold in a Fanatics Collect auction. The rarity was just one of the thousands of CGC-certified sports cards, TCGs and non-sports cards that were sold through the Fanatics Collect marketplace in October 2025.

The 2025 Topps Sterling Autographed Bat Nameplates #SNP-SO Shohei Ohtani certified CGC Authentic realized $336,000 in a Premier Auction on October 23. As of mid-November, it holds the record for the highest price realized by any CGC-certified sports card on the Fanatics Collect platform. Purchased just before Ohtani and his Dodgers teammates won their second straight World Series title, this card highlights the three-time MVP winner who continues to add to his already-iconic legacy as one of the greatest players in baseball history. Although any card with Ohtani's signature is coveted, he rarely signs his name in Kanji. Not only is his name signed in Kanji but the segment of his bat barrel features his name also in Kanji, making this the first card ever to include both his autograph and bat barrel in the Japanese script.

Additionally, a 2024 Topps Chrome Boxing Autographs #CBA-JPL Jake Paul - SuperFractor certified CGC Authentic realized $20,400 on October 23. While Paul's place in the boxing world may be a point of discussion, there's no denying his record in the ring and that his bouts have commanded plenty of interest. The famous YouTuber has helped promote the sport in recent years through several high-profile fights, as "The Problem Child" continues to prove that he is one of the best self-promoters in boxing. The 2024 Topps Chrome Boxing set is the first standalone boxing series to release in years and this particular card is the lone one-of-one autographed SuperFractor of Paul in the set.

Meanwhile, a Charizard, Pokémon (1999) Base Set 1st Edition Holo graded CGC Gem Mint 10 realized $72,000 on October 23, becoming the highest-selling Base Set 1st Edition Charizard certified by CGC to be sold at auction on Fanatics Collect. Besides Pikachu, Charizard is one of the most beloved Pokémon in the world, and cards featuring the fire-breathing lizard typically sell at a premium. None are more coveted, however, than the iconic Base Set Charizard illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita. CGC has certified a total of 578 examples of Base Set 1st Edition Charizard in English, but only 30 of them are certified as CGC Gem Mint 10, according to the CGC Cards Population Report.

Additionally, an Ishihara GX, Pokémon (2017) Black Star Promos – TPCi01 60th Birthday Party Giveaway promo graded CGC 9.5 realized $35,000 on October 29. This promotional card was produced for Tsunekazu Ishihara — the President and CEO of The Pokémon Company — for his 60th birthday.
