CGC Certifies Two Cosmic Foil Soul Stones from MTG Spider-Man Set
Posted on 2/12/2026
Most modern Magic: The Gathering sets have a chase card — a special card that is rare, valuable and immediately interesting to collectors. Usually, these cards have a limited print run and are sometimes even serialized, making it extremely unlikely to pull them from packs. Some modern examples include the serialized gold Traveling Chocobo from MTG’s Final Fantasy set, or Sothera, the Supervoid from Edge of Eternities.
Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider Man is no different. Though the set doesn’t contain any serialized cards, it does contain an extremely rare Mythic card: the Soul Stone, a card depicting one of the five Infinity Stones, and the first of its kind in the MTG TCG. Recently, CGC was entrusted to authenticate and grade two examples of this card — the textless, cosmic foil version of the Soul Stone! So far, these are the only two examples that CGC has certified, according to the CGC Cards Population Report. One example received a grade of CGC Pristine 10 — the highest grade on the CGC Cards Grading Scale — while the other received a grade of CGC Gem Mint 10.
When Wizards of the Coast prints mythic rare cards, they’ll sometimes print multiple versions of the card. In this case, different versions of Soul Stone were included in the Spider-Man set, including a regular version that looks like a normal MTG card, a Borderless version featuring Thanos and the textless version seen above. The textless version is the rarest. Collectors only had a 0.015% chance to pull it from Collector Boosters — the only packs from which it was available — and that’s on top of Collector Booster packs having a shorter print run than the more common Play Booster packs.
In addition to its rarity, the Soul Stone is also extremely popular in play. At its base, it is a two-mana indestructible artifact that adds an extra black mana to a player’s mana pool when tapped — an excellent choice for black Commander decks. However, when tapping seven mana and exiling a creature, players can harness the full power of the Soul Stone and activate its infinity ability, which lets players return a target creature card from the graveyard to the battlefield every turn. This ability’s power is so great that it can easily turn the tide of a game!
With both rarity and power, the Soul Stone is one of the most coveted MTG cards in recent years. If you have an example of Soul Stone — and you’re not using it to pummel your opponents in tournaments — consider sending it to CGC for authentication, grading and encapsulation today! All you need is a free CGC account to submit, but paid members get discounts on grading. Visit CGCcards.com to learn more.
