CSG Certifies Burrow Rookie Ticket Autograph Card
Posted on 10/7/2021
The Playoff Contenders set was first introduced in 1993, but it wasn’t until 1998 that the set really took off in the eyes of collectors. That was the first year of the Rookie Ticket Autographs, which have become the most sought after subset with rookie card collectors. The set underwent a name change in 2009 to reflect the acquisition by Panini.
Certified Sports Guaranty® (CSG™) recently certified a 2020 Panini Contenders Rookie Ticket Autographs #101 Joe Burrow. CSG graded the Rookie Ticket Autograph card a 9.5, with sub-grades of 10 for Centering, Corners and Edges and a 9 for Surface. The autograph graded a 10. This on-card autograph, uncommon in this set, is highly coveted by collectors compared to the on-sticker variety. Both types of autographs are still authenticated by Panini.
The card is designed to mimic the appearance of an actual ticket with a few variations for different players. The ticket cards also come in Veteran, Championship, Playoff, Season, Wild Card and Super Bowl variations.
Joe Burrow was born in Iowa and attended Ohio State University for two years before transferring to Louisiana State in 2018, where he won numerous awards, including the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award and the Heisman Trophy. He was the first overall selection by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2020 NFL Draft; however, his rookie season ended abruptly following a knee injury in a game against the Washington Football Team in Week 11.
By all indications, Burrow has a long career ahead of him. The Bengals are off to a 3-1 start, with his stats well ahead of his pace last season. The 2020 Panini Contenders Rookie Ticket Autographs #101 will continue to be one of his most sought after cards by collectors.
