The Chicago Bulls joined an elite club in 1992, becoming only the fourth team in NBA history to win back-to-back NBA Championships when they defeated the Portland Trail Blazers in six games. The Bulls got off to an amazing start in the series, winning by 33 points in the opening game, which saw Jordan break Elgin Baylor’s record for the most points in the first half of a playoff game. Jordan scored a total of 39 points, which was more than Portland scored in total in the second half.

The Trail Blazers were led by NBA superstar Clyde Drexler, who Sports Illustrated dubbed Jordan’s “No. 1 Rival.” Drexler finished second to Jordan in the MVP race for the 1992 season. During the Finals, Drexler averaged 24.8 points per game. Jordan averaged 35.8 points per game, going on to win his second Finals MVP.

When the Bulls won Game 6 with a score of 97 to 93, Jordan was wearing the Nike Air Jordan VII, which was revolutionary for being the first Jordan Nike to not include Nike branding on the exterior of the shoe. The only swoosh on the Jordan VII is on the insole. On the exterior, the focus is on the Jumpman. The eye-catching design on the bottom of the shoe was inspired by West African art. The shoe features the “Raptor” colorway, which is primarily black with “court purple” and “university red” accents.

And the stage was set for a three-peat.
