As the 1993 NBA Championship began, the Bulls were attempting something that had not been accomplished in nearly 30 years: a three-peat. When they defeated the Phoenix Suns in six games, they not only got their three-peat, but also put to rest any doubts that they deserved to be considered one of the sport’s great dynasties. However, Jordan was worn down, feeling the effects of “The Jordan Rules” and the weight of the world’s expectations.

Game 4 of the series saw Jordan score 55 points, which was his record for NBA Finals scoring. The Bulls won the game 111-105. In the final game of the series, Jordan scored all of the Bulls’ points in the fourth quarter except for the game-winning three pointer made by John Paxson with 3.9 seconds remaining. By winning the Finals MVP, Jordan became the first player in history to win the award three years in a row.

Jordan won his third NBA Finals wearing the Nike Air Jordan VIII. This model was marked by an “x-strap” that covered the laces and a chenille Jumpman graphic that appeared at the top of the tongue. The colorway of the shoe Jordan wore for Game 6 was appropriately named “Playoff.” But unbeknownst to most, Jordan believed that the Air Jordan VIII would be the last shoe he would lace up in a professional game.
