CSG-graded Ayrton Senna Rookie Card Sold for $24,600 Among Recent PWCC Highlights

The amount is the second-highest price realized for any CSG-certified card ever sold through PWCC.

Certified Sports Guaranty® (CSG®) is collaborating with PWCC Marketplace to bring collectors weekly online auctions presented by PWCC that feature sports cards graded by CSG. The popular program offers numerous opportunities from across the sports card market, as collector interest continues to grow since it debuted in 2022.

On March 12, 2023, a 1984 Panini F1 Grand Prix Scratch N' Play Ayrton Senna graded CSG 8.5 sold for $24,600. This is the second-highest price realized for any CSG-certified sports card offered through PWCC.

The legendary Brazilian F1 driver won a total of 41 Grand Prix races and earned three World Drivers' Championships (1988, 1990 and 1991) during his career. However, in 1994, tragedy struck: Senna died in a racing accident at the San Marino Grand Prix, bringing his already iconic career to an abrupt end when he was only 34 years old.

On March 16, 2023, a 2004-05 Panini Este Stickers La Liga Lionel Messi graded CSG 9 sold for $1,620. The rookie card of the Argentinian soccer player features a young Messi during his first season as a pro at Barcelona. The 35-year-old is arguably the greatest to ever play the game and is one of the most decorated athletes of all-time after recently leading Argentina to a World Cup victory, which was the only major trophy to elude Messi during his legendary career.

Additionally, a 1985-86 Calcio Flash #90 Roberto Baggio graded CSG 7 sold for $504 on March 19, 2023. Baggio is an iconic Italian soccer star who is well-known as one of the greatest attackers ever. The forward and attacking midfielder played for some of the largest clubs in Italy, such as Fiorentina, Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan, while also playing for the Italian national team from 1988 to 2004. In 1993, he was named FIFA World Player of the Year and also won the Ballon d'Or. To this day, he's the only Italian to score in three different World Cups.

On March 12, 2023, a 1963 Topps #540 Roberto Clemente graded CSG 6 sold for $300. The iconic Puerto Rican right fielder played for the Pittsburgh Pirates for 18 seasons and made the All-Star team 15 times in his career. He's a two-time World Series champion (1960, 1971), four-time NL batting champion and 12-time Gold Glove Award winner. Clemente sadly passed away in a plane crash on December 31, 1972. He posthumously became the first Latin-American to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973.

  • a 2004 SPx Super Scripts Autographs #SS-PM Peyton Manning graded CSG 8.5, with autograph graded CSG 10, that realized $156 on March 20, 2023
  • a 2009-10 Topps #319 James Harden graded CSG Gem Mint 10 that realized $156 on March 26, 2023
  • a 1962 Topps #200 Mickey Mantle graded CSG 2.5 that realized $150 on March 19, 2023
  • a 1967 Topps #150 Mickey Mantle graded CSG 3 that realized $144 on March 26, 2023
  • a 2018 Donruss #304 Josh Allen graded CSG Gem Mint 10 that realized $138 on March 19, 2023
  • a 1974 Panini World Cup Stickers #396 Eusebio graded CSG 8 that realized $126 on March 26, 2023

Among the upcoming PWCC auctions in April, there are several vintage 1910 E98 Set of 30 baseball cards featuring some of baseball's earliest legends. PWCC is offering 26 cards from the rare 1910 set that are each in astounding condition for their age. The April auctions are led by a 1910 E98 Set of 30 Red Ty Cobb graded CSG 9.5, which had seen bidding exceed $4,000 several days before the sale. PWCC Marketplace and CSG have created a streamlined pathway to grading and selling through an operational partnership between the two companies. The grading and selling program is accessed via an online submission process on the PWCC website, and everything is managed through the PWCC Vault.

Cards sent to CSG receive priority grading and encapsulation through its third-party grading service for sports cards.
