CSG-graded Vintage Baseball Cards Among Recent PWCC Highlights
Posted on 5/9/2023
Certified Sports Guaranty® (CSG®) is collaborating with PWCC Marketplace to bring collectors weekly online auctions presented by PWCC that feature sports cards graded by CSG. The popular program offers numerous opportunities from across the sports card market, as collector interest continues to grow since the collaboration debuted in 2022.
On April 9, 2023, a 1910 E98 Set of 30 Ty Cobb (Red) graded CSG 9.5 sold for $66,000. Not only was it the highest price realized for a CSG-certified card in April, but it also became the second-highest price realized for any CSG-certified sports card offered through PWCC. Learn more about it here.
The Cobb card is one of several CSG-certified pre-war baseball cards from the 1910 E98 Set of 30 that sold through PWCC in April. The iconic center fielder played for the Detroit Tigers for the majority of his MLB career, from 1905 to 1926. Cobb is credited for setting 90 MLB records during his legendary career, with several still intact to this day.
Additionally, two versions of Honus Wagner's cards (from the same 1910 set) also sold on April 9, 2023. A 1910 E98 Set of 30 Hans Wagner (Red) graded CSG 8 sold for $15,600. That makes this particular card the fourth-highest priced card graded by CSG in a PWCC sale.
The other is a 1910 E98 Set of 30 Hans Wagner (Green) graded CSG 8.5 that sold for $11,400, which means it takes the fifth spot out of the highest prices realized through PWCC. Wagner, who was called both Honus and Hans at the time, is another legendary player in this series. Perhaps best known for his famous 1909-911 T206 card, the vintage baseball card was the most expensive sports card in the hobby for decades. Wagner was also one of the first five original members of the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936, along with the likes of Cobb and Babe Ruth.

Turning to modern cards, on April 23, 2023, a 2017 Upper Deck MJ Flight School Autographs #MJ3 Michael Jordan graded CSG 6.5, with an autograph graded CSG 10, sold for $3,840. That price was the 12th-highest ever realized for a CSG-certified card through a PWCC sale. The card features a piece of a Jordan game-worn shoe and a large on-card signature. As a six-time NBA champion, six-time NBA Finals MVP and five-time NBA MVP, Jordan is arguably the greatest player to ever play the game.
