Team CGC Cards Reaches Day Two at the Pokémon Peoria Regional Championships

Posted on 10/11/2023

In another highly attended regional tournament, Grant Manley earned a 105th place finish.

Team CGC Cards faced tough competition at the Pokémon Peoria Regional Championships, with 1,703 Master-level competitors over the October 6-8 weekend. This competitive season has continued to develop a significantly higher turnout rate; the largest regional tournament in the previous season hosted 1,485 competitors in Orlando.

Representing Team CGC Cards, Grant Manley placed 105th (8/4/3) and Caleb Gedemer placed 112th (7/2/6). Azul Garcia Griego and Kidd Starck did not advance to day two of the competition. Remi Lorenz was unable to attend the event, but we hope to cheer him on in Sacramento this weekend.

When asked for comment about the team’s strategy at Peoria, Caleb shared: “The team settled on Gardevoir ex, but similarly to our performance with the deck at NAIC, ties kept us from performing up to our expectations. Moving forward, there may be some adjustment to how we view the deck, considering its tendency to get stuck in undesirable (often tie) situations, unconducive to reaching Top 8. Azul and I faced each other in round seven of day one, and after taking the loss there, Azul was knocked out of day two contention in the next round. Kidd was also a victim to too many ties, unable to advance to day two.”

Team CGC Cards was assembled by Danny Oesterreich in 2022, and is comprised of seasoned players Azul Garcia Griego, Caleb Gedemer, Kidd Starck, Grant Manley and Remi Lorenz. The team will compete next at the Sacramento Regional Championships, at the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center, in Sacramento, California on October 13-15.
