CGC-authenticated Caitlin Clark Rookie Card Sells for Record $84,000 through Fanatics Collect

Authenticated by CGC Cards, the rarity broke the record for the most expensive women's basketball card ever sold.

Caitlin Clark's rookie season was one for the ages, as the Indiana Fever guard broke multiple records on her way to being voted the unanimous WNBA Rookie of the Year Award winner. Her historic 2024 season also saw her basketball cards reach new heights.

On September 2, a CGC-certified 2024-25 Panini Instant WNBA Draft Night Autographs #DN-1 Caitlin Clark - Blue Viper 1-of-1 sold for $84,000 on Fanatics Collect — a record for any women's basketball card.

The Panini Instant card was certified by CGC Cards as part of a recently announced service where CGC is authenticating and grading cards on-site at Fanatics Collect's Tigard, Oregon, facility. Through the authentication-only service, cards are placed in a protective sleeve along with a CGC Cards tamper-evident label that includes information about the card and a QR code that links to the card at the Verify Certification resource on the CGC Cards website.

"The authentication-only service gives buyers and sellers peace of mind," said CGC Cards Vice President Andy Broome. "This is a service we're excited to offer collectors through Fanatics Collect because there's less handling time, less shipping time and it provides a quick way to get the card from the seller to the buyer, all the while knowing what they are getting is an authentic card."

The card was initially sold on Panini America’s website on the night of the 2024 WNBA Draft. The card features Clark posing for photos, holding up her new Indiana Fever jersey, right after the franchise selected her with the No. 1 overall pick.

What makes this card even more special is that it's a Blue Viper parallel, a one-of-a-kind card that can't be found anywhere else. It's not only the first card to show Clark with her first professional jersey, but it also includes her handwritten signature in bold blue ink. The combination of the basketball star's autograph and it being a one-of-one rarity make this a truly valuable and historic collectible.

Clark earned widespread acclaim while playing college basketball at the University of Iowa. She made headlines and captured the attention of sports fans around the world as she set numerous NCAA records, hitting 3-pointers with seeming effortlessness.

She broke the NCAA's all-time scoring record (3,951 points), the women's NCAA records in 3-pointers made (548) and broke a slew of other records.

Clark's trading cards have seen a similar trajectory as her career, gaining value as Clark competed in the NCAA and moved to the WNBA. Many think this record sale represents only the beginning for her career and collectibles.
