Cletus Kasady, a serial killer serving time in New York, became Carnage when he merged with an alien symbiote during a prison breakout. Similar to Venom, the symbiote that merged with Kasady used to be able to free itself and flee, leaving Kasady in his human body. This is referenced in the text on the back of the card, which alludes to a part in the character's story arc where Norman Osborn bonds with the symbiote instead. However, the symbiote has since permanently merged with Kasady, making Carnage a permanent entity. Unlike Venom, Carnage has no sense of morality and will slaughter anyone, innocent or not, who stands in his way.

Upper Deck’s 2022 Marvel Metal Universe set has a total of 200 cards featuring iconic Marvel characters. All of these cards have different colored parallels, each with their own denominations. Purple Light FX parallels are the rarest of them all — each card only has one Purple Light FX print, and they can only be physically pulled out of hobby boxes — so they are incredibly valuable to collectors.

CGC Trading Cards has had the honor of certifying 10 Purple Light FX cards from the 2022 Marvel Metal Universe set, including a 1/1 Ghost-Spider graded CGC 9.5. CGC Trading Cards has also graded other colored parallels from the set, including rarities such as a Miles Morales Precious Metal Gems Green parallel graded CGC 9.
