CGC Cards Registry Featured Set: Shonen Jump 10th Anniversary

Posted on 4/8/2025

Donavahn's Shonen Jump 10th Anniversary set is 100% complete and features cards graded CGC 5.5 or higher. Don't miss a Q&A with the set owner!

In 2008, Konami partnered with Shonen Jump to release a special Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG set to celebrate the trading card game's 10th anniversary. The Shonen Jump 10th Anniversary set includes eight Ultra Rare cards with original artwork illustrated and signed by Kazuki Takahashi — the creator of Yu-Gi-Oh! himself! These special cards are elusive and very valuable, because they have not been reprinted in any set since 2008, making this set a must-have for Yu-Gi-Oh! collectors.

Additionally, this set includes some of the TCGs most famous monsters, including Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Red-Eyes Black Dragon and Shiba-Warrior Taro, a monster card that has not been reprinted since its release in this set. The Shiba-Warrior Taro card may seem like an odd choice for the 10th anniversary set (especially since it isn't an alternate art of an existing card, like the others in the set), but it was actually included as a tribute to Takahasi's dog — a Shiba Inu named Taro.

Donavahn's Shonen Jump 10th Anniversary set is 100% complete and features cards graded CGC 5.5 and higher. We caught up with Donavahn to talk about the set and what he loves about the CGC Cards Registry. Check out the Q&A below!

Q&A with the Set Owner

How did you get started collecting Yu-Gi-Oh! cards?

I started watching the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime in my early teenage years. I would wait for new episodes to air each week. I loved the show so much that when the cards began selling in North America, I would save up all the money I got through chores, good grades and holidays to buy more cards. I began collecting and trading cards when the game was released and have been collecting ever since.

What makes this set unique or special to you?

Once I began collecting Yu-Gi-Oh! cards more heavily as an adult, I broadened my knowledge of the game and its source material. Through several friends, I was introduced to the manga. I loved the artwork of the manga so much that I began attempting to collect any cards whose art was created by Kazuki Takahashi. The unique alternate artworks for cards that I loved playing with as a teenager drove me to purchase and trade for any of these special cards that I could get my hands on.

What other collecting goals have you worked on?

There are several higher-end Blue-Eyes White Dragon cards that I am seeking to add to my collection, like a Dark Duel Stories in greater condition. I am also seeking Blue-Eyes cards in better grades than the ones I currently own. Outside of that, there are two cards I am hoping to obtain from Magic: The Gathering. I am hoping to find a CGC Pristine 10 for the Princess Bride versions of Command Tower and Silence in foil. This would give me a CGC Pristine 10 for every card in that particular Secret Lair release. I am also looking forward to collecting and grading cards from the Spider-Man Magic: The Gathering set releasing later this year.

How has the CGC Registry helped with your collecting goals?

The CGC Registry helps with my collecting goals by making it easy for me to organize my graded card collecting. Looking at the set information provided by CGC shows me what cards I am missing and motivates me to collect different cards and sets through the ranking program. The CGC Registry makes collecting cards more exciting for me. I am eager to grade more cards and to continue my high level of passion for collecting.
